Bio
"Very promising, especially the lyrics!" - Steve Lillywhite

Songwriter Raquel Rivera teamed with bassist Sin Mitrovic, "City of Lights" (Newage/J-bird records) late 1997 to form "The Stamps". Both musicians cultivated odd fascinations for eerie carnivals, dusty antiques and a quaint classic American 1950's. Musical inspiration stemmed from purest bands like "The Smiths" and "Cranberries" to the awareness that this sound or element was missing in bands from The States. Drummer Alan Weisman (session musician for OFRA HAZA) recruited into the team and disclosed the challenge. The goal of "The Stamps" was to successfully portay a vision of American dream/pop-rock.

Earliest rehearsals were visited by industry officials ranging from A&R to managers Raquel once handed demos to. The lyrics were first to receive commentary. Listeners not clued in on the lyrics could easily misconstrue the dreamy tunes for happy ones. The music is dreamy, but grounded by radios "friendly" pop tradition in terms of musical composition. Vocals shift from wistful to eerie during moody key changes. The songs are filled with haunting stories of weird interractions with surreal characters to pensive, innocent questioning of rules in love and life.

"The Stamps" debut EP/SINGLE will be released August of 1998 by TigerLilly Records. A promotional showcase will follow. Radio distribution is currently being arranged through Nova Music resources. The Song "Miss Havisham" has been entered in the annual John Lennon Songwriting Contest.

"The Stamps are not meant to be combative in anyway. We acknowledge the business side. We've done our homework, have prepared for the worst! We choose to continue providing an outlet where tenacity to pursue goals is encouraged, required, nurtured for and not mistaken for unreasonable passion"
- Raquel
